I've always said that changes are good. Well, I was met with changes today. I was layed off from the law firm I have been working for. I was there for two years and seven months. I'm really okay about it. It's not a devastating change for me, thanks to my wonderful husband. After all, we can still look forward to January 24, reported to be the "Most Depressing Day of the Year", which might explain the January Blahs reported by my friend Sharon and her commenters. The MSNBC article sounds like they used her blog for reference.
The firm made some changes in staffing because there were changes thrust upon them with four attorneys announcing that they were leaving to start their own firm. That's a big change. In the mean time I'm going to be home for a while. My long distance husband and I haven't had much of a chance to discuss our options yet but my vote is for staying home and spending all day knitting. heh Noo... actually, I have a TON of stuff to list on eBay - of my own plus my husband is an impulsive glass buyer and can't pass up a bargain. He's got BOXES AND BOXES of glass at his apartment that I can be taking pictures of and listing on eBay. He doesn't have a camera and doesn't have the kind of time that I've now got on my hands, so I'm sure he'll be glad to have me help him out.
I've been wishing to be at home ever since the baby was born but we really didn't feel comfortable taking that leap. We've been pushed, so now we're leaping - ready or not. We'll see how it goes.
SO.... on to a more fun and interesting subject: knitting. Here's the latest picture of the sock. I finally decided to check the gage and ohhhh my word, I had to frog the entire thing. You're supposed to have 28 stitches be 4" wide. Mine was 4.75", which would add an extra 1.5" to the circumference of the sock around your leg and foot! Nooooo... I'm NOT Mrs. Big Foot. I needed smaller needles.
After spending HOURS running from store to store (there really are only three stores to choose from in Waco) I found the right size of DPNs. By the way, Hobby Lobby in Waco has their knitting supplies and pattern books 40% off this week!! So I got two packages each of sizes 0, 1, and 2 (already had 3's which produced a very baggy sock). They didn't have circular needles in those sizes (for magic loop knitting of socks) but I can probably order those if necessary some day. In the mean time, I've done a swatch and found that size 1 needles give me the proper gage. Whew. They're TINY!!! I had to get used to them all over again like I hadn't been using DPNs for the past week or something!
When the sock is bigger I will take a new picture. In the proper gage. *sigh* Swatching is sooooo important! :)
I guess the world survived the astronomical cost of G-dub's second inauguration. Lots of complaining out there. I guess they don't know the totals most likely include stuff like the hourly wage of every person that's getting paid overtime to provide security, the fuel in all the vehicles and helicopters, probably the electricity to run all the lights and fountains, blah blah blah. I'd have a hard time throwing the same party for less $$.
