A few days ago the Harlot was desperately seeking spring. It has arrived in Central Texas (as if she wants to hear that). This is what spring looks like at my house. This pretty Gerbera daisy flowers nearly year-round. I think the last new blossom was in late October and here we are with more by late February.
I've done a bit of knitting but not a bit of picture-taking of the knitting (just these spring pictures this morning). I have continued on the Stashbuster Spiral socks to the point that I'm ready to begin the dreaded Sherman heel. I will follow the pattern and make the Sherman heel but with all the emails of confusion and questions, I want a bit of uninterrupted time to concentrate on it. Emeline's naps just aren't long enough. And I like most of my knitting to be fairly mindless. So the Sherman heel will wait a bit longer.
The Magic Stripe socks are also waiting in the wings for me to be re-interested in them. They're so blase now that I've begun "real" sock knitting. heh With specially named toes and heels (doesn't matter that I haven't done the heel yet).
The beautiful custom dyed and spun 2-ply yarn from my friend Kathy in North Carolina has begun making itself into a knit jumper for Emeline. I think it will make itself into something else before long.... like a ball. I don't want to knit this into something that I wish was something different next year. Maybe by late summer I'll figure out what this yarn wants to be. Maybe I don't know it well enough yet. :)
Of course my every thought is of HOUSE HUNTING. If you've ever done it you know what I mean. Especially if you didn't want a house that looks like everyone else's house. And espeically if you have children. You want the best for them. You want a house you don't hate going home to. You want an easy commute to work (for hubby), the best kitchen, bedrooms for every person (that's a lot for us!).... bathrooms, blah blah blah blah blablablablabla..... It's enough to make someone crazy. THANK GOODNESS Mr. Perfect is so easy to please in this area. His only complaint when we drove by a few houses last weekend was "This isn't good enough for us. Let's look at something nicer." Uhhh... who has a husband that says something like that? The best for me, our daughter, and his step-children. Only the best schools, house, everything. I told my 12yo daughter Katie and she said, Mommy, I'm going to cry. I asked why and she said, Because our old neighborhood in Wichita was nice enough for me... and he wants us to have something nicer.
I was chatting with Jeff's brother whose children are in a very high class school district in Wichita. He said the kids all seem to be lazy rich kids that have everything handed to them on a silver platter.
My kids will feel like we have been on Extreme Home Makeover when we move to Wichita. That's what made Katie cry. And I know that's the difference between my kids and the lazy rich kids in the high class school district. Being a poor single mom we've been through everything together. The kids were there when I got layed off after September 11th. And when my car was repossessed. When the gas was off and we had no hot water for an entire summer. When we had no washer and dryer and we washed clothes in the bathtub (in cold water) and dried their socks in the microwave before school in the morning. They were there when the water was cut off and we filled a bucket from across the street at the gas station to flush the toilet. And there when the electricity was cut off and we dressed by candlelight and flashlight. They lived with me in a house that had skunks living underneath. Yes. Skunks. These kids are not the lazy kids with everything handed to them on a silver platter. I hope they get comfortable with having more space. And more privacy. And more bathrooms. And a laundry room. And a garage. And a place to put their bicycles so they're not stolen from the back yard. I know they won't forget where we've been.
More spring: The red bud trees don't last long but they're one of the sweetest parts of spring no matter where you live. Too bad we don't have some dogwoods to go with them. :)
Last but not least... I don't know what these are called. Maybe annoying white flower-weed thing that comes up in the yard when the grass needs cut. I hope everyone sees spring soon and has a nice week. :)
You are very lucky to have spring. Minnesota can't make up its mind if it want to be winter or spring. It is really cold here. Where do u live in Texas? I've been to Austin, Texas a couple times. It is just a great area. I responded to your comment on my site. I have a few questions about what you think about sin and how God forgives.--Dave
