Hi everybody! It's Wednesday and I'm feeling a little random - I have several things to mention that are completely unrelated and no clever segue in mind to bind them together so here we go in no particular order.....
Our finches are sitting on four more eggs! Who knew they would have a 2nd batch? Who? I want a living plant up there but I do still like to see the birds. :)
I took the babies in our awesome stroller (I really heart this stroller y'all) for a walk up to the church to see if we got any afghan mail. Yes! One new square added today from Sonya in Ozawkie, Kansas! Thank you Sonya! And look at this darling hand made card she sent. It's a little picture cut from some fabric then somehow she glued it to the card paper. It's really cute and a neat idea with the right picture!
I got a phone call from Ray Whiting of Knitivity in Houston, TX a few days ago. Ray is a Hurricane Katrina survivor who has relocated to Houston and started a yarn dyeing company! Ray organized the Bundle Up New Orleans afghan project and had already started checking around to see what he could do to help the people of Greensburg when he was given the information about the Rebuilding Greensburg - Block by Block project. Ray is offering special sock yarn at a discount for anyone who would like to knit socks for people in Greensburg. Ray has "been there" with his Katrina experience and knows that once winter hits these people still won't have a lot. Please check out Ray's AWESOME yarn dyeing and wide selection of fiber types. Anyone knitting socks, mittens, or whatever else for Greensburg residents can still send them to my attention at the El Dorado First Baptist Church and we will be sure that they are taken to Greensburg where they can be given to families who need them.
If you would like to read a little more about Abbie and her three raccoons Twister, Dorothy, and Toto - check out yesterday's article in the Wichita Eagle!
The flowers I planted on Sunday were inspired by the Mothers Day gift that Emeline brought me from her Bible class at church that morning. It was a little pot of pretty pink impatiens. Anyone who knows about impatiens knows that they are definitely a shade plant. I have never been able to grow them well before because I didn't have a shady enough place to put them. Not any more - I have the perfect place for them - no sun. Virtually EVER! In a flower bed at the foot of a nice little maple tree outside the dining room window. So we went and got four more and planted them Sunday. I hope they do well because they sure are pretty right now. :)
My sage is blooming:
And so are the dianthus. Nothing really special but it's so cheery to have them. :)
OH! I nearly forgot - I have a new FAQ!! I have wondered this myself when knitting for other afghan projects. Now that I'm doing it myself I don't have to think twice about the answer.
Should I weave in my yarn tails on the squares?
Definitely YES please! That way the squares will be ready for seaming when they arrive! :)
Everybody have a cheery day!!

Walking past dianthus is always so refreshing. You're doing such a fabulous thing, Laura!

Ooh, three of my favorite flowers! Hope they'll thrive for you. Emeline will be proud, I'm sure.

Hey Skinny-Mini Mama,
(Well, you will be very soon!) :-)) Must keep up the positive thinking!
Do you want us to upload photos of our squares to the Flickr thing? If so, how do I get them to go to your Flickr group?
Thanks!

hey you know that's some good exercise there going to the church to check the mail :)
What a gorgeous little card, I love it!!!

Hi Laura! How do you want the tails woven in? Are you crocheting a border around each square that will hide the ends or are the blocks being seamed directly to each other?
Also, do you want the square washed and blocked before sending them to you?
Your flowers are beautiful! I love Spring flowers especially after a very long, dreary Winter. I have yellow iris and bleeding hearts soon to be followed by the azaleas in my garden. All the Spring-flowering trees are in their glory around here right now.

Good Evening Laura,
Loved the card! The flowers are so vibrant and colorful! Thanks for showing them daily. My yard is just finally coming together. It has been such crazy weather up here in MN it is hard to know when to put those "beauties" out. I woke up this morning to lower 40's....BRRRR!
Flickr group is definitely thriving! I love the way it is set up..it is nice to be able to see the other squares coming your way...will you be able to take photos of some of them and put them on as a weekly collection..or daily..etc?
Well, guess it is time to KNIT ON! ;o)-X

I have dianthus by the porch steps. They won't be blooming for weeks and weeks, though! (What a cold spring in Vermont. Even the lilacs are just barely making an appearance.)

Pretty flowers! You should feel really good about what you're doing with the afghan project, hon.

I've seen lots of squares on my travels through Blogland. This project is really growing.

Hi, pretty flowers! I have a sack of wool odds and ends that was given to me to use for charity knitting. The first square will get mailed tomorrow. Your afghan project is a great idea. Cheers!

Hey! I finished up a spinning project and a knitting project, so tonight I'm plopping on the couch with a Six Feet Under dvd and knittin squares! I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it! (is that weird?) :o)

That is a good idea. (weaving the ends in) I have one square completed - boy is it a fun little pattern (I sometimes call them recipes!) but I had no idea an 8" square was so big -- yeah, I know. I am challenged when it comes to being able to picture things by their size - not too sure what that is about...
I have killed many an Impatiens plant in my time - they really do need to be in the shade! I hope yours like their spot under the Maple tree. I love Dianthus - can't wait for mine to start blooming.
I love that card - what a clever idea.

Oh my goodness! I just checked out Knitivity - the colourways are amazing!
If only I hadn't just blown all my money tonight...curse the need to buy groceries and pay bills.
