It's Heatin' Up Around Here!

We're into the hundreds y'all!  Yes, it was 98 yesterday and should be 100 degrees farenheit today in Kansas.  Hopefully it will be cooling down considerably in another month when we're preparing for the seaming party and visit from the Yarn Harlot!

But something else is heating up...... the AFGHAN MAIL!!  WooHoo it's gettin' hot in here!!

Yesterday was a CRAZY busy day with Lila Pearl's early morning visit to the heart doctor in Wichita - he said she does still have a teeny tiny hole that's nearly immeasureable so he wants to see her again in two more years for another check.

Then I picked up our afghan mail at the church on the way home.  I arrived at the same time as the mail man which was a blessing because he loaded the mail directly from his truck into the back of my van - two huge sacks of mail and a giant box too!!  My word!!

So just as I was finished opening this gigantic quantity of mail and the babies were getting up from their naps, Jeff called to remind me that I needed to go register the kids for school yesterday!!  GAH!  Just a tiny little thing to remember, huh?  Thank goodness for my husband.  So all my blogging time gets taken up by life and afghan stuff these days.  There's so much afghan stuff I can hardly find a moment to blog about it!

And reading blogs??  Well... umm... I have over 800 unread posts on my bloglines.  I'm facing a grim reality of hitting the button to clear them all out.  I've only done that one or two times in the past 2.5 yrs.  I might.  I might not.  Let's see how much mail we get today, huh?  :)

So this afghan report - oh my goodness y'all.  I'm sorry to say we're getting SO MUCH... and the packages are SO WONDERFUL, I accidentally PUT AWAY the squares from the last little mention on .... was it Wednesday last week?  Thursday? (gotta check my list) .... without taking pictures of them.  I'm very sorry.  I hope y'all can forgive me whose squares came last Thursday.  I promise they looked like squares and were very beautiful.  And I will tell all your names on this post.

* * * Break to get babies up for breakfast * * *

8:00pm  AAAaaaand we're BACK!  ha  Well that took all day.  Imagine that.  Living my life takes all day long and often well into the night.  :)

So we had another day and the squares are still adding up.  I picked up the afghan mail this morning and just finished opening it so we're adding today's squares as well to this monster square report.  There are so many names and things to report receiving that I'm going to just do a photo post tomorrow and leave the pictures off this post.  I hope you don't mind cause it's all I can do right now.  I'm still furiously knitting on my sockapalooza socks because, as at least a thousand people know... it's time to be mailing them.  Ugh.  I'm never caught up with anything in my life!  But it won't steal the fun away from these socks.  They're the most beautiful socks I've ever knit in beautiful yarn and a beautiful pattern and wow.  They're making me incredibly happy!

So what do we have for the afghan report today?  Lots and lots of names.  And squares.  And stuff!!  I've looked over my list and I believe that the squares I mentioned and added to the count were on August 1st but I didn't list or add their "stuff".  I'll be listing those names and will include their "stuff" in the count I'm adding today.  The data for August 2 - 7 is as follows:

  • 431 afghan squares - makes our current total 3286!  Yay!
  • 51 yarn needles
  • 3 pair of socks!
  • 8 scissors
  • seaming yarn!  seaming yarn!  seaming yarn!
  • $10 cash
  • 14 scarfs
  • 8 hats
  • 5 afghans
  • 1 baby afghan

Uhhhh.  Wow.  Yes, you're reading that correctly.  I already put away the squares from August 1st.  So at the moment there are 431 squares on my dining table.  Pictures tomorrow.  Wow.

Nite nite.  :)

That is amazing Laura!!! I am so excited. I can't wait to see all the afghans made..

Congratulations on so many squares! I am not going to do the math to figure out how many afgans will be made from 3200+ squares but it makes me smile to read your post. I'll bet all of us who knit squares are smiling...

Wow!! This is fantastic! There will be a lot of beautiful afghans for the families of Greensburg.

Yowza! My guess might get blown out of the water! What fantastic news.
You ladies and gents and kids are going to be seaming, seaming, seaming.

Have some water with your Diet Coke - 100 degrees!?! Whoo - we have clouds and rain (they promise) here.

thats one heck of alot of stuff!!!!

A Diet Coke before bed? I'd be awake all night from the caffeine. However, if my life was as busy as yours is right now, I'd be so exhausted it probably wouldn't make any difference.

You run through life at a fast pace when you have 5 kids and a BIG charitable heart. XOXO

Wow - it is amazing to see the squares come rolling in. My squares are ready to mail - I just bloggeed about them on Sunday. :)

Amazing! Y'all blew right past my guess for the Contest Post. And I'm glad, really. :)

I'm continuing to be amazed at the places the squares come from...that people from all over the country and even the world care so much about my little home town...it brings tears to my eyes!

It's hot in Greensburg today, but when the cold prairie winds are a-blowin', so many grateful folks will get to wrap up in those nice comfy afghans.

I can't wait to see pics of the finished products!

P.S. It's hot here in Ohio, too! Ugh!
