We have a square. My first square is finished - the seed square for our project, Rebuilding Greensburg - Block by Block.
Yesterday I made some phone calls to the pastors of our church and got the go-ahead to use the church address for advertising the project and telling people where to mail squares. Anyone that has already received my home address in private can still use it - I'll be getting the squares from the church as they arrive. This is just a safer more sensible way to get the word and address out.
Yesterday I got a few emails from people far away (TV anchor in Connecticut!) wanting to give out the address on their web site and I said - Uhhh... hang on. Time for something different if we're getting that kind of exposure. That's when I called the pastor.
Someone else wanted to know where they could send Bibles or other items for the families of Greensburg. The church address is Perfect for those type of things. I will try to post some links on my sidebar of other ways to help the families of Greensburg, Kansas.
On the smaller more personal bloggish contestish side of life - this is the last post to qualify for entries into my week-long comment contest! Yes - someone has hit 3000. I wish it could be every person! Tomorrow you'll learn who that person is - maybe it's YOU! When I get up in the morning we'll be printing all the comments I've received for the past week and doing a random drawing for two additional little pressies. I was hoping to have photos of those and a finished Larger Than Life bag by now but life has been crazy. Both babies have been sick - STILL. Poor Lila Pearl can't seem to kick her fever. They both visited with the doctor on Monday and got new prescriptions. Apparently Emeline has decided the applesauce trick is getting a little old. I'm still trying. Thankfully she's the lesser ill of the two and Lila takes the medicine like it's liquid candy.
Gotta run - busy busy with trying to finish my LTL bag and knit more squares for Rebuilding Greensburg. I am looking forward to knitting at Panera Bread on Saturday morning more than EVER. My little get-away.
OH.... I'm supposed to teach a cable knitting class tonight - but I don't think anyone has signed up. The lace class last week was pretty interesting. I had one regular student plus one store employee (who gets to take the class for free). I felt good about the materials that I pulled together but both ladies really weren't quite ready for lace. We focused more on knitting basics. Slip knot. Cast on. Knit. Purl. Chatting about needles (aluminum vs. bamboo/wood, long vs. short vs. circular). Chatting about fiber content. Accidental increases on the swatching. Fixing errors (extra yo's, etc). We did incorporate some k2tog and yo's on the knit side. They ended up with little holes in their swatches that they made on purpose! Yay! They both had surprisingly GREAT tension considering their overall lack of knitting experience. It was fun and I wasn't nervous. And I made a few dollars for going. I don't quite see it blossoming into a tremendously successful venture but I'm liking it. And I don't feel discouraged by anything yet. It's a good thing.
See y'all tomorrow with an announcement of contest winners!! :)
Go forth little square. Be fruitful and multiply!
I'm knitting a square as soon as I get home, if I have some worsted weight wool, which I think I do. Can't wait to get started.

That is a beautiful shade of blue for the first square.

Of course the winner of the contest is ME.

I need to knit you a square. It'd be a comfort to knit and a comfort when knit!
Hang in there with the classes, I'm sure you'll get more students and it'll be worth your while. If nothing else, you're spreading the love of the knit!

How cool is that - getting attention for your project from so far away!
I have one square almost done - just need to find that bit of matching yarn I know is around here somewhere so I can finish the corner. I have yarn to make a couple more sitting by also.

Good job on the teaching :) I don't think I'd have the patience for that!
I hope Lila and Emeline are better soon!

I'm so glad your project is "taking off"! I went to the yarn store to enrich my stash for making the squares since my stash was quite boring!
Hope your babies are better soon. I always hated it when my kids were sick - I'd rather be sick myself than have them sick!

Your last image looks really cool. Sorry to hear the little ones are still sick. Reached the halfway point on my first square. Helps that I had to sit in a waiting room for a while yesterday.

Your class is just small, warming up for the big classes that will come in time. good luck to ya.

I'm supposed to teach Starlight, but so far only 2 students have enrolled. I have 4 listed as the minimum; I was considering letting it go with 2, but I found out one of the two women doesn't know how to cable. If you haven't seen this pattern, check out my blog; but suffice it to say, one should know how to cable before attempting it.

Must comment. Must comment. Must get knitting going. Squares, squares, squares. Did I win anything yet? Hope your girls get better soon, it's just so frustrating sometimes.

try ice cream or sherbet for the medicine, when i'm old and they have to mix my pills in something, it better be ice cream.

What a cute idea - a seed square! Well, I have 2 done for you. Let me know where to send them.

Oh please include me in the contest!!! And once I've finished gifts for Mother's Day I will make up a square or two and send it your way.

Maybe there will be some things we can send for the children?! I'm sitting around waiting for some work to be done on the car this morning. I'll be sure to grab some worsted yarn and needles.

I got some squares at meetup yesterday. I'll bring them to Panera. I've started mine. I'm glad you weren't nervous for your class.

I love the colour of your square.
How wonderful that the word has spread so quickly. It is so heartwarming to see people spring into action to help one another.
Thanks for hosting this effort!

I have to finish a gift for a party on Wednesday, but after that, I'll whip up a couple for you. I can't imagine what I'd do if my home was destroyed like that.

Please count me in for a square. What a lovely idea. Oh, and a contest rocks, too.
